Johnny Depp is in talks to join Angelina Jolie in The Tourist, which is targeting a February production start.

Depp would play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star is replacing Sam Worthington (upcoming Avatar), who dropped out over creative differences, as has director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) is in early talks to take over the director’s chair.

At one time, Bharat Nalluri was attached to direct with Tom Cruise in the lead role. Charlize Theron was also attached to the project for a long time, but was replaced by Jolie recently.

Julian Fellowes wrote the original script; Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff did rewrites.

Depp and Jolie to star in Tourist

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie are to star together in new thriller The Tourist.
The movie had been struggling to get off the ground as it was without a director, but German filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck - director of the highly acclaimed The Lives Of Others, has now stepped up to the mark, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The movie - adapted from Anthony Zimmer's French film which was released in 2005 - will star Depp as the tourist lured into a web of intrigue by Interpol agent Angelina Jolie as she tries to catch an evil criminal.
The film - which has had Tom Cruise, Charlize Theron, Sam Worthington and directors Alfonso Cuaron and Bharat Nalluri linked to it previously - will begin shooting this spring and is scheduled to be out in cinemas next year.

According to Monsters and Critics, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are slated to start filming The Tourist next month. Filming will take place in Venice.

The director and producer are said to be hopeful that they can keep disruptions to the locals to a minimum, but that seems kind of unlikely. If you have two major stars like Johnny and Angelina filming the same movie together, it’s pretty much a guarantee that the paparazzi are going to practically pitch tents on the side of the road to make sure they get as much coverage as possible.
I think the only way that they can keep filming for The Tourist on the down-low is if they block off a lot of the area to traffic but that in and of itself would obviously cause a huge disruption to residents and people who need to get in and out for work.
We also know that generally Brad Pitt and the kids accompany Angelina when she’s filming for more than just a couple of days (and vice versa when Brad is filming), so if the photographers think there’s any chance of snapping Brad, Angelina, AND Johnny all on the same day, it’s going to be a bit of a media circus.
I wonder what kind of paparazzi laws Venice has?
Of course the good news is that getting filming started means we’ll be getting closer to yet another exciting Angelina Jolie movie!

At Saturday’s Los Angeles press conference for “Alice in Wonderland” Johnny Depp was asked how the filming for “The Tourist” with Angelina Jolie is going:
“We haven’t started yet,” he replied.
“When do you start?” pressed the reporter.
“Tuesday I think,,” Depp said, sounding unsure, which made the conference crowd chuckle.
Burton, seated next to him, turned to his pal Depp and asked, “How do you think it’s going to go?” which no doubt would have been the reporter’s next question.
“I think it’s going to go just fine,” Depp said with a grin, adding, “I think there are going to be a lot of paparazzi“.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie load their kids onto a special boat in Venice, Italy. The boat belongs to Angie’s co-star Johnny Depp. It’s named Vanessa II for his longtime love Vanessa Paradis.

Brad and Angelina took Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, Zahara, 5, and Shiloh, 3, to visit the set of Angie’s new movie The Tourist.

FYI: Depp also has a yacht called VaJoLiRoJa — the boat’s name comes from combining the first few letters of each family member’s name (Vanessa, Johnny, daughter Lily-Rose and son Jack).

Hard at work back on the set of “The Tourist,” Angelina Jolie was spotted in Venice, Italy on Monday (March 1).

Dressed in full hair and make-up, the beautiful actress emerged onto a balcony to shoot her scenes.


Jolie, Brad Pitt and their entire brood have all been staying in Venice while the movie is being filmed, and last week the family got a visit from Angelina’s once estranged father, Jon Voight.

In other news, Jolie doesn’t sit still for long; word has it that she recently signed up to star in an adaptation of “Serena: A Novel” with Darren Aronofsky.

Johnny Depp And Angelina Jolie: Handcuff Scene Shoot

Continuing work on their new movie “The Tourist,” Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were spotted on the set in Venice, Italy yesterday (April 12).

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” stud and the “Changeling” chick looked intense as they filmed scenes in a Motoscafo boat on the Grand Canal.

In related news, it seems Angelina’s partner Brad Pitt called his mother to help watch their kids while Jolie is at work.

An insider told press, “Brad gave the nannies the week off, as he was determined to show Angie that he could look after the children all by himself. However, after only four days he called in reinforcements.”
