Brad & Angelina Donate $1 Million to Haiti Quake Relief Efforts
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s foundation is contributing $1 million to emergency medical operations responding to the devastation caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday (January 12).
“It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence and unrest for so many decades,” says Angelina.
Brad adds, “We understand the first response is critical to serve the immediate needs of countless people who are now displaced from their homes, are suffering trauma, and most require urgent care.”
The Jolie-Pitt Foundation is donating the money to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiéres (MSF).
Angelina and the kids were recently spotted shopping at an Apple Store in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

First reaction:
Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Support Victims of Haiti Earthquake
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie expressed their deep sorrow on Tuesday night (January 12) over the widespread loss of life that occurred in the Haiti earthquake earlier in the day.
“We are devastated by the news from Haiti,” the couple said in a statement to JustJared.com. “We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”
Wyclef released his own statement on how YOU can help: “Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.
“I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.
“President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.
“Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can visit Yele.org and click on DONATE.”

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donate $1 million to Haiti relief
January 13, 2010.
First they issued a statement calling for help for the earthquake victims in Haiti. However, they don’t just talk the talk – they walk the walk too. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Haiti, 2006
Doctors Without Borders is an incredible organization; they had three hospitals in the Port-au-Prince and all three have been completely destroyed. This has forced the doctors to work out in the open air, doing the best that they can under the dire circumstances.
With the death toll rising and the complete lack of shelter, clean water, and total devastation, any funds being donated will help so much. Haiti is a country rich in culture but poor in finances and it makes me so happy to see so many people doing whatever they can to lend aid. The fact that Brad and Angelina are able to donate such a large amount thrills me. For everyone who ever snarked that they should stop working so much because they don’t need the money, the answer is this: No, they don’t need the money but when someone else does they’re there to give it to them.
If you’d like to help, you can visit the Doctors Without Borders website where every penny counts. If you’re on a tight budget please don’t stress yourself out because there are two things you can still do:
Spread the word. Before Brad and Angelina donated money they spoke out. They made sure people were aware that they could help. Tell your friends, your family, your co-workers. There are many ways to donate money whether it’s the Red Cross, Yele Haiti, or Doctors Without Borders. Let people know those organizations are taking donations. There is also the Charity:Water group which will provide safe drinking water, a common urgent concern after a disaster like this. Get the word out!
Donate when you can. A lot of people donate right away when disaster strikes which is amazing and very important. However, as the weeks go by, people forget about the tragedy as life continues on, but the aid still needs to roll in and re-building still needs to be done (just look at New Orleans). If you can’t donate now but know you’ll have $20 to spare in two weeks, donate it then; believe me it will be just as appreciated
And of course, we can make sure people know that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie aren’t just movie promoters, doing good deeds when a film is about to roll out. We can make sure people know that when a huge group of people are in need – just like the people of the Lower Ninth Ward, just like the refugees being helped by the UNHCR, and now just like the victims in Haiti – Brad and Angelina will step up to the plate instead of partying their money away like most of Hollywood.
