Oprah released this short video from her show, explaining how celebrities like George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Demi Moore and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are joining forces with the Pulitzer Prize winning authors of Half the Sky to help hurting women and girls around the world.
Nicholas D. Kristof -- an award-winning New York Times columnist -- and his wife Sheryl WuDunn (herself a former Times correspondent) also used the voice of Angelina Jolie to highlight the plight of young girls who were raped and forced to live in brothels against their will.
Jolie's voice was featured on the recent Oprah show, reading about one 13-year-old living in a sex slave brothel that contained a torture chamber in the basement.
The girl was impregnated several times by the various men who raped her -- and was given an abortion at one point when she was 4 months pregnant.
In tremendous pain after the abortion, the girl begged to not be forced to have sex that day, and in return one of the female brothel workers stabbed the girl in the eye. Then considered damaged goods, the girl was able to escape the life of sexual slavery.
George Clooney was featured for his multiple visits to the Darfur region, shedding light on the atrocities in the area.
Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, vows to put the rights of these suffering women across the globe at the top of her priorities as Secretary of State.
